Notice of Hearing from Bankruptcy Trustee

Why Would an Ex-Spouse Receive a Notice of Hearing from the Bankruptcy Trustee?

I just received a Notice of Hearing regarding my ex-husband's filing for Chapter Seven bankruptcy.

I need to know why.

What is required from me regarding this notice?

I live in Las Vegas Nevada and this came from California.

Are you receiving alimony or child support? If so, you are probably listed as a creditor in the bankruptcy petition. This type of debt cannot be discharged in bankruptcy.

Did you co-sign on any of the loans your ex-husband is trying to discharge? Does he owe you money or do you owe him any?

These are among the reasons you got the notice. The bankruptcy trustee is required to notify all creditors and other essential parties of the creditors hearing.

I suggest you call the trustee listed on the form and ask him why you were notified and if you really have to appear.

Generally alimony and child support or maintenance obligations cannot be discharged in bankruptcy, so if that is the reason for the notice, you should not have to appear.
