Erroneous Charge Off

How To Remove an Erroneous Charge Off Item

I have a paid charge off from TXU energy bill that I was not aware of. The charge off balance was transferred to my boyfriend’s account without my consent. I paid the bill, of course, to keep the lights on.

How do I get TXU to remove the paid charge off status when I never received a bill/phone call or a chance to negotiate?

I don’t understand your question. I assume you mean the balance was transferred to your account from your boyfriend’s without your consent. You then paid the bill.

If the bill was paid I don’t understand why it is called a charge off?

Call TXU and ask them about what they did. Explain to them that you paid your boyfriend’s bill even though you were not responsible for it and ask them to remove the charge off from your credit record and put it on your boyfriend’s.

If they refuse, you can contact the credit bureaus and tell them the charge off is mistakenly on your report when you were the one that paid the bill. They should remove any negative references from your account.

If they don’t you can ask them to attach your explanation to your report or you can hire a lawyer to try and clear it up. See Your Credit Report for the phone numbers and addresses of the major credit bureaus and an explanation of how to get erroneous entries removed from your credit report.
